My Health Careers classes worked hard to present 21 different Health Careers to the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from Minnie Canyon! The goal was to inform the younger kids about some of the different Health Careers out there! They got to learn about the various careers all while playing games and earning prizes. The Health Careers classes really enjoyed working with the little kids.
Feedback from some of my students:
I asked, what was the best part of the Health Fair for you and your group?
"Hanging out with the kids all day"
"Being able to see the kids' reaction to EVERYTHING."
"Seeing the kids have fun"
A great day overall
I'm super proud of my kiddos!!

May 2, 2024
We are thrilled to embark on an exciting period of growth and improvement for our facilities this summer! From June 8th to August 1st, 2024, we will be undertaking a series of projects aimed at enhancing our campus for the benefit of our students.
During this time, the majority of our facilities will be temporarily closed, with the exception of Minnie Cannon Elementary, where our Special Education extended school year summer school program will be facilitated.
Additionally, our high school sports teams only will have exclusive access to the Soccer Field located on the Minnie Cannon Campus and Foltmer Field at the back entrance of the High School. Please note that our locker room and weight room will be inaccessible until August 1st.
All students needing access to care for their farm animals will have the ability to do so.
We extend our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we embark on these important projects. Together, we are creating an even better environment for learning, growth, and achievement.
With warm regards,
Dr. David Miller,Interim Superintendent

GOING TO COLLEGE AND NEED SOME HELP FIGURING IT OUT? CHECK OUT AVID!
The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program has always been a great source for many kids figuring out how to join a college. If you're determined to go to college, take AVID .
The grades 7-12 can get help in advance with the help of avid and avid programs. AVID helps with financing, figuring out what credentials you need for certain colleges, and how to sign up. Learn how to take better notes, analyze texts and books, how to manage your money, and how to keep yourself on track for the future you want.
AVID can teach you how to manage money, get student loans, government help, and so much more. Many kids who don't know how they will manage their money during these up and coming years could benefit from taking an avid class.
If you're scared about paying back student loans, or just worried about how you might not be able to go to college due to financial issues, this is the class for you. Some colleges can be really expensive as well, plus costs of apartments, food, books, and any other materials you may need.
When you want to go to a specific college, you need to know what classes and what grades you need to know about to get into it. If you wanted to go to let's say UC Davis, you'd need to have taken 3-4 years of English and math, and 2-3 years of a class with another language, but that's just a snippet of what you need.
With specific colleges, you need to have been in clubs or sports as well. Including how sports and extracurricular activities may make any college applications look good.
Signing up for college could be tough. Personally, I found that avid really helped me walk through how to do it.
AVID shows you the online forms for colleges all over. If you ask your teacher in control of our school’s avid class (for us it is Mrs. Stetson), for tips on anything college related that you're wondering about, they would be great at answering any questions you may have.
The AVID program has helped about 93% of students who took the class get into a 4-year college--those are pretty good odds. AVID gives you tips on how to manage time, teaches how to take great notes, studying skills, focused reading, and organization tips. If you want to do well in college, these are great tips. Kids who join avid have been known to do better in college, and have learned a lot from this program.
AVID doesn't have to only be for college kids since it can help with anything. If you're struggling in a class, in AVID we learn how to take great notes and learn how to actually analyze books and text. AVID could also give you extra help with classes you could be struggling in. This class could also just be a study-hall kind of day, like if you are behind on a lot of work, you could use this time to get help from your peers and teacher to complete these assignments.
Middletown High School has a new club created by Cat Barriga, the Craft & Crotchet Club! Everyone is welcome in the club and you do not need any experience. If you have ever thought about trying to crochet but don’t know what to do or where to start, or even if you enjoy crafts and making things in general you might be interested in this club.
Listen for announcements during our daily bulletin and come to Mrs. Pyzer’s to check it out during the meetings and see if it's for you!
There are no fees, charges or materials you need to provide to join the club. Everything is provided from donations! If you would like to donate materials please contact Mr. Evans.
The Craft & Crochet Club is starting off by teaching the members how to start and how to make a chain, he basics of crochet. The club will be learning to crochet hats, scarves, socks and more to donate to the homeless! The club is also learning how to crochet squares that will be combined into a blanket and auctioned off! There will be help from club creator Cat, and other club members to teach people how to crochet as well as tips and tutorials to help everyone learn. Along with crochet, there will be a number of other crafts and projects! The club will be learning how to do T- shirt printing, resin work, making slime, and much more.
Club members will be able to host a craft of their choice for a monthly craft! For monthly crafts, club members will be able to choose a craft or project that they enjoy to introduce and teach the club for the month!
Crochet is a craft similar to kiting, but using a small hook instead of knitting needles to make fabric from loops of yarn creating different patterns and designs. “Crochet, craft that developed in the 19th century out of a form of chain-stitch embroiderydone with a hook instead of a needle” With crochet you can make at ton of fun and unique fabric designs, clothing, blankets, baskets, and so much more.
Along with being able to create fun and unique reactions with loops of yarn, there is also many mental benefits to crochet. “The meditative and repetitive action of both knitting and crocheting help to focus the mind on the activity, thereby slowing the nervous system and reducing anxiety and stress hormones (cortisol) in the body.” Studies have also shown that crochet can help you sleep and increase levels of serotonin.
Joining MHS clubs that interest you is a great way to meet new people, and make friends that share your interests! Also participating and hosting during the monthly crafts can be a great thing to put on collage applications! To any student at Middletown High School that is or might be interested in crafts and wants to learn to crochet, we hope you come and check out the crochet and see if it is for you!
AP CLASSES & DUAL ENROLLMENT: FIND THE HELP YOU NEED
Middletown High School has multiple AP and Dual enrollment classes for nearly any subject you want to go into. These classes are highly encouraged for college success and can help you get well paying jobs in the future. But, students who are still trying to make their way through high school don’t really know how to get these classes. This article is supposed to bring light to what these classes do and how to enroll in them so that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in life.
"AP classes and Dual enrollment are specialized classes that help you gain college credits"
AP classes and Dual enrollment are specialized classes that help you gain college credits. Despite these classes doing technically the same thing, there is a difference between them. Dual enrollment classes are for earning college credits at your community college, while AP Classes get you credits on a national level. These credits can be used to help you get either an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in college. Usually it requires 2 years of General Education Classes before you can get these said degrees. When doing these General ed classes, the college credits you get from AP and Dual enrollment can zoom you through with ease.
To enroll in AP classes, you have to be in your junior year, but Dual enrollment can be taken any year of high school. The person you want to talk to if you want to enroll is the new AP Supervisor Mrs. Sabatier, you can find her at the library. Although Mrs. Schneider, the previous AP Supervisor is a great help when it comes to this topic.
At the end of every AP Class, there is a test that you have to pass to gain college credits. To pass the test, a score of 3 out of 5 is needed, almost every AP class consists of a 5 question test that is taken at the end of the year. In order to take the test it costs $90, or $40 for low income students.
Dual Enrollment is a lot easier than AP classes but they aren’t as useful. Dual Enrollment Classes are normal classes that you can take any year of high school, they just happen to give you college credits. These classes can be chosen when selecting your classes for the next year, I suggest talking to the counselor to see what classes are considered dual enrollment.
If you want the best you can get out of school, AP classes are highly recommended, the teachers at Middletown High also support this. They often share lists of the best students at the school and recommend them to classes that they think they’ll do well in. If you do well in Mr. Austin's world history, then you’ll most likely be recommended to World History Honors or APUSH.
AP Classes might seem hard but they are a must-have when planning to go to college, I would recommend it. Any class that gains you college credits during high school, rather it be AP or Dual Enrollment, is a shortcut to getting a college degree and a well paying job. Now that you are armed with this new variety of opportunity, I hope you can strive to be the best student you can be while preparing for the future.
Just last week, the new baking club, The Amazing Bakers, started their business of selling cookie cards during lunch to raise money for a trip to Washington D.C. From their first appearance during Club Rush, The Amazing Bakers addicted the school with free samples, educating fellow students on what their club is and what they do. On Thursday, they officially started their business of selling. Club members walked around campus with signs advertising their $1.50 cookie cards that you could use to later pick up two cookies from their classroom.
The group is run by four students in the SPED class and their Teacher/Advisor, Allison Smith, but all the other students in the class help and participate in the baking and selling of these delicious treats. These four students are the club’s officers: President TJ Suite-Thomson, Vice President Daniel Donham, Secretary Demetrius Roberson, and Treasurer Hunter Sisson.
