Principally Speaking...
Greetings students, parents, and friends of Middletown High School.

I would like to encourage the community to attend the November 8, 2024 football game versus
Upper Lake. This is a significant game because it is the last regular season home game for the
“Legend” Bill Foltmer. Join us in celebrating this legendary coaching icon.

Our Varsity and JV Girls Volleyball teams wrapped up a successful season. Our varsity girls made
the playoffs. I would also like to thank our coach, Erika Galvan, for leading our teams to a
successful year.

Middletown High School’s Boys and Girls Soccer teams have also wrapped up their regular
seasons. Both Girls and Boys Soccer teams were successful this season, each has qualified for
the playoffs. We continue to wish the best for our Girls and Boys Soccer teams as they prepare
for the playoff 1st round starting on Wednesday.

I would like to thank all of our student athletes for their dedication and preparation to their
academics and sports endeavors.

Thank you for your support. Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner
I attended an NCAA high school counselor presentation this week, I have learned a lot regarding our student athletes. If you need information please reach out and I can share the information with anyone interested.

Students interested in taking the SAT at Woodland Community College on Dec. 7th, registration ends Nov. 22nd. You can register online through your College Board account.

On Friday, October 11th, I attended the CSAC - Financial Aid Workshop at the Sacramento County Board of Education. The following are updates from the conference:

Anticipated date the FAFSA and CADAA will open is December 1st. They are going through an initial process right now, trying to get rid of any bugs or problems that were encountered last year.
Students can create their account and invite contributors (parent/parents/guardians) to also create an account. This way when it opens, you will be ready to go. Students need their own personal email account, honestly, this should be set up in their Freshman year because we also use it for dual-enrollment sign-ups. Students should not use their MUSD email!
The FAFSA and CADAA form actually help determine the different types of financial aid which include:
Gift Aid - grants and scholarships
Self-help Aid - Loans and student employment
Federal Work Study Programs - these are better than a job because academics always come first with these positions.

Please let me know if you are interested in a “Cash for College” night. I would like to hold it in the first week of December if there is interest.

Scholarship Opportunities:

Students should be a part of the following organizations, who help search for scholarships:

Fastweb.com - https://www.fastweb.com/

immigrantsrising.org - https://immigrantsrising.org/

Parents who file separate tax returns need separate accounts.

Student name needs to be an exact match to Social Security Card, also student school records need to be an exact match for Cal Grant.

Contributors without a Social Security number should apply very early, during that time there has historically not been a manual verification process.

Pacific Union College will be presenting on Thursday, November 7th, in the Library. I have sent out a form and would love to have as many of you as would like to attend and see what this local gem has to offer. The link to the form is below.

College applications are now open. Please do not wait until the last minute to submit! If you need my help please reach out! Also be sure to check with the school you are interested in applying to before using the Common App. I recently had a student who was going to apply and pay the fee for the Common APP, only to find out that the University they were applying to did not charge an application fee. Do your research!
